Treason, it seems like this issue will not go away. The issue was addressed in articles posted in the Vonfrederick blog on Nov 13, 2005, “Treason or Politics?” and again on Apr. 8, 2006, “Who is Committed to Victory?” Now with the recent article published by the New York Times that exposed a secret and legal government program to track terrorist funding, this word has once again been attributed to the liberal contribution to the nation’s War on Terrorism.
Webster defines treason as the act or attempted act of working for the enemies of the state; betrayal of trust, disloyalty to a cause. Treason is defined in the U.S. Constitution,
Article III, section 3, 1.Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. It’s pretty simple and straight forward.
Now consider extensive examples of liberal politician conduct and public statements in the liberal media that betray the trust of the American people and U.S. military fighting the terrorist; repetitive statements disloyal to the U.S. cause and adhering to the enemy cause. It would be excusable if rare “slips of the tongue”, but they are not. It is consistent and continual behavior and comments that harm the security of Americans at home and abroad.
Treasonous articles by the liberal media are not a rare occurrence. These are a few other published articles that were either fraudulent and/or harmed the U.S war effort and emboldened and aided our enemy, the Islamic terrorist. In 1998 the NY Times published a story about the NSA tracking electronic communications from al-Qaida operatives as they was preparing the 9/11 attack. The result was Bin Laden disposed of old satellite phone system and set up new communication protocols, thus eluding any detection of his 9/11 plans. On Dec. 14, 2005 the NY Times published a fraudulent story about police seizing forged Iraqi election ballots from Iran in an attempt to invalidate the elections. On Dec.16, 2005 it published a story detailing how the NSA targeted certain communications between known international terrorists and their U.S. counterparts or supporters. The NY Times and Washington Post published stories about a massive covert CIA program to capture suspected terrorists and interrogate them at secret detention centers around the world, which has proven to be unsubstantiated. The liberal media has divulged detection methods utilized to locate missile material en route to U.S. urban centers. The NY Times published incomplete information from the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction that harmed the U.S. and Iraqi war efforts and emboldened the Jihadis. Remember, this is a short list.
Now review the definition of treason. The question is not if it is treason, because it truly is. One has to wonder why? The editors of the New York Times offered a pathetically lame explanation that it is a 1st Amendment right and the public’s “right to know”. Really? Would he offer the same excuse to publish specific information about the allies plan to invade Europe on D-day or the invasion of the Philippines during WWII. Or publish stories that the allies had secret programs that decoded German and Japanese communication codes? What is the good for the American public to have the information the NY Times published?
The questions that beg to be answered are these. Do liberals hate America so much that they would assist in its demise? Or do liberals hate President Bush so much they would be willing to destroy America as long as it is detrimental to Bush? Or are liberals willing to destroy America if it will be the means to them regaining political power?
In my opinion, government officials committed treason by leaking the information. The New York Times committed treason by publishing the article. All those involved in leaking and publishing classified information that expose legal and secretive programs used against terrorist in order to protect American citizens and US military personnel should be prosecuted and punished to the full extent of the law.
