Historians scrutinize every aspect of great civilizations from their creation through their decline. For example, the Roman Empire ruled the world for centuries and historians debate the cause of its decline. Most agree the decline can be attributed to the onslaught of enemy armies and internal weakness due to mingling of Romans with conquered cultures. This mingling resulted in disintegration of their common language and a loss of traditions and values that made them great.
