In a couple of day, Darkness worshippers are going to unleash again the wave of scary tiny giggling combatants of their Armies of darkness. Witches and ghosts, ghouls and skeletons, zombies and other genetic freaks are going to take over our streets, Boo our driveways, ring our bells and demand calorie-high sweet treats or else!
In a couple of days, most of suburbia will look like the cardboard stage of an old Bela Lugosi Dracula movie, with haunted houses, schools of Goblins, ghost train rides, wooden tombstones, purple or orange lights, rubber bats hanging from trees, spider webs all over, and freaky sound tracks playing loud. In a couple of days, adult and children are going to dress up in their creative home-made or fashionable expensive costumes and celebrate again what has started as a Celtic pagan celebration of the dead and has allegedly become one of our most profitable holiday (after Christmas, Mother”s Day, Valentines Day, Easter, and Father”s Day ).
Brought to us by Irish immigrants in the mid 1800, Halloween and its mass slaughtering and carving of innocent pumpkins is still alive and strong and I cannot thank children, farmers, candy makers, dentists and businesses enough for keeping it that way. Halloween, or All Hallow’s day Eve, has become the celebration of the eve of all Saints day (All Hallow’s day, Nov 1). After failing to get rid of these pagan rites, the Catholic Church finally integrated them to the All Saints celebration according to the well know motto “If you cannot beat them, join them!”
Anyways, the “H” word might not be politically correct anymore but is basically the last standing icon to debase. Christmas is almost gone form the open, and so is Easter. Americans Turkeys are going after Thanksgiving. The almighty “G” (I cannot even write the name anymore) has been defeated too, gone into hiding with the smokers and married couples, in the same closet where so many groups used to live their “different” lifestyles unobstructed. In the name of equality, we have created diversity. And in the name of diversity, we have created political correctness and sensitivity. And in the name of political correctness and sensitivity, we have created generations and groups of people that are the architect of the gray thought-controlled dictatorship of the thin skinned lawyer-backed minorities.
Again, Folsom, thank you! Thank you for the city to spell the H word in its October newsletter and sponsor a Ghost Train ride that already looks like a lot of fun. Thank you Folsomites to let your neighbors get crazy with their backyards, and let our kids have a harmless evening of innocent fun. Halloween has nothing to do with religion “unless you are still celebrating Celtic rites, decorating your front yard with dolmens and menhirs, and really believing that dead souls will come and try to steal your body on that night and only ignoramuses would try to say otherwise.
Halloween is the big American dream – it is all about marketing an event to the parents and kids, and about money – and it works! It is not a Christian celebration but a Christian “integrated” event and similar celebration -days of the dead- are still surviving their Aztec, Mayan, Chinese or Norse roots and are still being celebrated today.
Gee whiz! To the Catholics upset because it overshadows the All Saints day, and to the Christians thinking of some Satanic worshipping, I would quote Father Amorth, an exorcist at the Vatican that said, “If English and American children like to dress up as witches and devils on one night of the year that is not a problem. If it is just a game, there is no harm in that.”
To the modern time Wiggans and witches, I would apologize for our kids depicting them as ugly, grey skinned old bags riding old fashion brooms instead of modern turbine vacuum cleaners. To the other one, I would suggest the posting of a warning sign threatening to shoot our kids or unleash a rabid dog to trick-a-treaters, and just go on with whatever they do with that day.
It all sounds so much like the fairness doctrine Congress is considering imposing on conservative talk radio because “liberal” radio does not work. People need to tune in to listen to the shows and get brain washed by the advertising that pays for the airwaves. No fairness issue but a majority issue. Duh – what a concept – majority rules in a Democratic system! October 31, party poopers don’t have to listen, or watch, or pay attention – it is fine with us the devil worshipping majority of party goers! So please “Hollow-whiners”, go away – and Merry Christmas to you all too!
