Back from France and Happy to see that the Supreme Court has finally shown some common sense by siding with a school that suspended a student for deploying a “bong hits 4 Jesus” banner during an event. The Supremes basically stated that schools can regulate student speech that advocates use of illegal drugs. We talked about it earlier when the ACLU took the case to DC, and today, again common sense rules.
Let me remind you of the facts: a student had been suspended in 2000 for posting a huge “Bong Hits 4 Jesus” banner on school property during a school event for the Olympics. The principal told student to remove the banner and eventually tore it herself when the kid flatly said “no” and waved his rights and his freedom of speech. He was eventually suspended and immediately followed with a good ole lawsuit against the principal. The circuit court of appeal gave him reason and allowed him to seek financial compensations. Now the whole mess is in the hands of the Supremes. Furthermore, a wonderful coalition of the ACLU, Conservative religious Organizations, advocates on Drug use, free speech and Gay right groups united in support of the student!
The Supreme Court ruled that “because schools may take steps to safeguard those entrusted to their care from speech that can reasonably be regarded as encouraging illegal drugs use, the school officials in this case did not violate the first amendment by confiscating the pro-drug banner”

What do you think? A blow to free speech, the ACLU, Conservative religious Organizations, advocates on Drug use, free speech and Gay right groups, or just plain common sense?
Any conspiracy theory?
